I’m new here

What type of church is Zion?

Zion is a part of the “Lutheran branch,” of Christianity. More specifically, we are connected to the ELCA denomination of Lutherans. Our Lutheran heritage is both about being rooted in tradition, and being open to the new work God is doing. Our Lutheran story goes back over 500yrs ago to Germany, yet it is also what guides us to connect with people where they are in the 21st Century.

What should I wear?

Regardless of which service or group you attend, we welcome you as you are! Overall, you’ll find most people dress on the casual side (shorts, jeans, skirts, t-shirts). And you’ll find some people prefer to wear a collar shirt, or tie. Whether you wear heals, flip flops, or sneakers, we’d love for you to walk on in and join us!

What styles of worship are there?

8:30 – Our traditional style of worship, when we sing hymns and worship responsively. We use the organ or piano in our singing. We hear Scriptures, and celebrate God’s gift of Holy Communion each week.

11:00 – Our Modern Praise style of worship. Zion’s Cornerstone band leads us in singing songs, and the order of worship is more informal and casual. We hear Scriptures, and celebrate God’s gift of Holy Communion each week.

What can I expect for my children?

Ultimately, your child(ren) will be fully welcome to participate at Zion! We believe the best way to learn is by doing, so your children can worship with you at both services, including spending time at our Kids’ Zone right in our sanctuary, so they can be engaged in worship. We also have a (paid)staffed nursery during our 11:00 service.

During our Faith Formation Groups (9:45) – your child(ren) will be welcome into one of our age designated groups (Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School, and High School). During that time, you can rejuvenate with a cup of free coffee at our Holy Grounds café, or visit one of our adult small groups.

Our “Kids’ Zone” is located right in our worship space, so all ages can be engaged in worship together!
